An Eastern-style saber, popular in Poland after 1683, when large quantities of this type were left behind in Poland as war booty after the Battle of Vienna. This type became popular in Poland and was often used during national uprisings. The saber is also called the "Mameluk" after the Egyptian Mamluk formation. After Napoleon's campaign in Egypt, sabers of this type were introduced into French military equipment, and after 1831, also into American military equipment (US 1831 Marine Saber).
